IV-Posts & Pages

Posts & Pages

Objective: By the time you finish this module, you will be able to create new Posts and Pages for your teacher Web site, and you will be able to distinguish which is best for different purposes on your site.

To be right up front about it, Posts and Pages are the portion of Blogger that confuse most people. They both have distinct functions, but they also share some functions. The way you use each can also vary depending on the needs and the plans you have for how you use your teacher Web site.

Posts are for timely material--things that matter right now and need to be up front for a time. Think of Posts as the bulletin board of your classroom or the front page of a newspaper. Posts are a good way to share a recent project your class did or reminders about an upcoming test. At the start of the school year, your first Post should be a welcoming note to parents and students. Posts are the heart of your teacher Web site, and the way it beats might change frequently throughout the school year.

Pages are for more permanent structures--things that matter throughout the entire year. These are a good place to put your course expectations and syllabus. Your Pages are the muscles that go over the skeleton of your Web site and make it all work together.

Confused? That's okay. You will be for awhile. You may find that things you thought were good as Posts are better as Pages, and vice versa. Again, that's okay. Posts and Pages are the part of Blogger where teachers can truly express their individual style and personality.

Let's tackle the heart of Blogger first--the "Posts."
